Sammanfattning: Studies show that mechanics not always read instructions. They often talk to a colleague when a problem arises in order to find a solution. This increases the risk that the mechanics will miss important information so that the vehicle is not properly assembled. In order for a mechanic to know what is wrong with a vehicle, error codes are used. Error codes are a kind of instruction used when diagnosing a vehicle. The purpose of this work is to clarify the information in the error codes by using text and image in collaboration. To investigate the problem, text analyzes, interviews and tests are used in collaboration with the target group. This work addresses theories of thematic bindings, disposition and multimodal integration. Based on the methods and theories, it is concluded that there are three different parameters that could clarify the information in the error codes: The text should use thematic bindings to facilitate the processing of the information, the images should be placed before the text to support the information in the text, and meta-language references are used to integrate the image with the text to create a connection between the two elements. All parameters have been applied in the design of information about two error codes. These shows how the parameters can be used to clarify the information of the error codes.
