”The-piggy-in-the-middle” : En kvalitativ studie om arbetsmotivation utifrån mellanchefens perspektiv

Sammanfattning: Purpose: The purpose of this study is to understand what increases the work motivation among middle managers from different industries. Method: The study ́s design is based on qualitative research with an deductive approach and treat middle manager´s motivation. The study’s empirical data was collected by interviews and the theoretical framework consists of books and scientific articles. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study shows that the main contributor to increasing middle managers' work motivation is; organizational structure, feedback, relationships and communities with colleagues, responsibility and development. With a clear structure of the organization, the role of middle managers and the demands placed on them are clarified, which increases the chances of middle managers to successfully perform, which in turn contributes to increased motivation. Communities with their colleagues as well as feedback are other factors that further positively affect the managers' motivation. The study also shows that responsibility and development leads to higher motivation of middle managers. This may involve developing within the existing position and thus experience the feeling of self-actualization by doing what you are meant to do.
