Sammanfattning: Machinery-level control systems and data capture technologies are generating a vast quantity of data about production systems nowadays. However, the majority of these data remain unprocessed occasioning a drawback. Getting insight from data is an important factor for competitive advantage when managing decision-making in the context of operational management or controlling real-time processes in the context of plant floor operators. Therefore, the process between the extraction of data and the delivery of processed data that is meaningful to final users becomes essential. This thesis investigates this gap. At the beginning a general review about informational model in discrete manufacturing is done, joined together with a discussion of the different forms that data can adopt. This lead to an investigation of a general solution for supporting data storage. Two data storage systems are selected and a technical implementation of both is done along with the creation of a web-based tool for visualizing key process indicators. The suggested solutions are not claimed to be complete. Rather, the work in this thesis can serve as a starting point for more exhaustive investigations or as a basis for something that can be extended.
