Klimatpåverkan av förpackningar - Livscykelanalys av offsettryck kascherade wellpappförpackningar

Detta är en Master-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Miljövetenskaplig utbildning

Sammanfattning: Packaging is an essential product to protect, transport and store goods in. An increase in consumer consciousness about the climate impact derived from packaging has been identified during recent years. As a response, the manufacturing industry is increasing their sustainability work when producing packaging and products. The goal of this study is to contribute with more information about the climate impact from packaging, specifically laminated corrugated carboard packaging produced in Sweden. This study shows that laminated corrugated cardboard packaging produced by FrontPac emits 781 kg CO2-eq./ton product using only manual calculations based on obtained data and complementary literature. The climate impact amounts to 1 929 kg CO2-eq./ton product using an LCA software. This study performs a life cycle assessment focusing on solely calculating the climate impact. The system boundaries are limited to the factory’s gate, a so called “cradle-to-gate” study. The processes exclude the use of the product, transportation from the factory and waste management. The software used in the study was OpenLCA, where the database used was Environmental Footprint and the life cycle inventory assessment method was Environmental Footprint (Mid-point indicator). The results show that the majority of the climate impact derives from the production and transportation of materials to FrontPacs’ factory. The most significant differences in methodology and results between this study and other studies are the energy mix grid, the means of transportation and the transportation distance.
