Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study has been to investigate how social workers, who work with drug abuse treatment in Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, experience that organizational, political, economic, societal and power aspects, affect them in their daily work. The study is formed on a basis of qualitative interviews, applying organizational theory as a tool for analysis. The main empirical material consists of eight qualitative interviews with social workers who work with drug abuse treatments in Sarajevo. The main questions of the study aim to address social workers experiences of their possibilities to influence the organization, in which they operate, in various ways. But also in what way the social workers experience that politics affect their work situation and in what way the social workers perceive their professional role in relation to the organization and society. The main findings of the study shows that from a political and economic point of view, social workers have little opportunity to influence or change organizational aspects. The challenging political, economic and social situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, places the social workers in a paradoxical situation where they have to meet organizational, societal and clients’ needs while working with inadequate resources. Social workers of this study experience the main problem to be the policies of the country resulting in non-sufficient resources, which also restrict their daily work. They believe that the civil society lack information about their occupation and profession and that it is an aggravating factor when collaborating with other organizations and reintegrating clients into society. Some of the social workers acknowledge that they have a kind of power position through their profession, but they do not experience the power aspect to be a central part of their daily work.
