Sammanfattning: Suicide prevention consists of several different types of strategies ranging from strengthening the individuals’ mental health to spatial planning. Studies have shown that preventing suicide within the scope of spatial planning by restricting the accessibility to dangerous sites is effective and helpful. Two Swedish authorities have been commissioned by the government to develop a new national strategy for suicide prevention, with the support of several relevant authorities and stakeholders. The rescue service is potentially a significant stakeholder due to the knowledge from the suicidal rescues, which is nowadays either utilized to a limited extent or not at all. It is therefore of significance to analyze the possibilities to develop the rescue service organizational work around suicide prevention within spatial planning. By conducting literature, questionnaire and interview studies, it can be concluded that the majority of rescue services are in the need of developing a work process regarding suicide prevention, especially their involvement within spatial planning thus cooperation with other first responders and stakeholders within the municipality. This thesis resulted in a work process, adapted to the unit of prevention of the fire department, with five partial processes where the first two are fundamental to be able to work concretely with the last three processes. The last three sub-processes were applied to the rescue service in Östra Götaland to either investigate the feasibility of or to exemplify the sub-processes.
