Sammanfattning: It is an on-going debate in the business of fire protection engineering in Sweden whether steel construction in hall buildings (building class Br2) can be performed without technical fire classification or not. The building code, EKS 9, gives some restrictions and methods to determine this and one of these methods is the local fire (Swedish standards institute (1), 2007) which is evaluated and analyzed in this master thesis. The aim with this master thesis is to identify difficulties with the method and to determine which parameters of both fire and construction are central for the design of fire protection and also to evaluate the parameters of the local fire for which the design method is most sensitive to. A further goal is to develop a guide for the local fire design method and to perform a case study to apply the developed guidance for a certain type of hall building. It is especially the distance between the local fire and the construction that is important to be aware of when the local fire design method should be used. Other parameters like diameter and heat release rate per unit area are also important to keep in mind when conducting the method.
