Den Grædende Harpe
Sammanfattning: This master thesis in social anthropology, is based on fieldwork, conducted in the peruvian village Andamarca, in the region of Ayacucho, from February to April 2018. I have studied the special kind of folk music, called huayno, in order to establish its role in the local community. The inhabitants find themselves living in a vulnerable state, based on a violent history and political oppression. Their sufferings and vulnerability are expressed through the huayno music, which has the ability to create an atmosphere of sorrow and grief. This music represents a resilience strategy, through which their sufferings are alleviated. The huayno music has been practiced historically by their ancestors, and is described emically as being unique to the region of Ayacucho. The historical continuity and the uniqueness of this special kind of music, manifest their ethnic identity, hereby giving meaning to their sufferings.
