La condition féminine dans Ombre sultane d’Assia Djebar et L’Interdite de Malika Mokeddem. Une analyse narratologique et sociocritique des deux romans

Sammanfattning: Novels investigate mankind and the world. Through the comparative study of two novels, Ombre sultane by Assia Djebar and L’Interdite by Malika Mokeddem, we intended to analyze how the two texts depict the social hierarchy in Algeria in the end of the 1980s and at the beginning of the 1990s. We chose a narratological and sociocritical approach to highlight the place of characters in society and the means used by women to emancipate themselves. The study of narrative voices reveals the characters' journey in their quest for identity. The masterful character descriptions show a reversal of the balance of power between men and women in Djebar who multiplies the references for her female characters and keeps the male protagonist anonymous. Mokeddem portrays her main characters as hybrids, incorporating a mixture of cultures, genders, languages. Both authors expose the condition of women when society tries to keep women in a position of slave and victim. In the footsteps of their heroines, they are role models for women who refuse their status as victims and who struggle to reclaim their freedom, asserting that the solution lies in female solidarity and the reappropriation of forbidden spaces.
