Gemenskap genom social inkludering eller exkludering? -Möjligheter och hinder i det sociala livet för döva och hörselskadade gymnasieelever i Örebro
Sammanfattning: The municipality of Örebro has declared itself to be "The Sign Language Capital of Europe" due to its high ratio of Sign Language users. One explanation is that the National Special Upper Secondary School for deaf and hard of hearing students is placed in Örebro, which makes youths from all over Sweden move to there at an early age. The purpose of this study is to examine possibilities and hindrances for deaf and hard of hearing youths in their social lives in Örebro, with regards to both social inclusion in the hearing world and Deaf/ Hard of Hearing community-building through exclusion. The study has been conducted through qualitative interviews with actors in the youth Sign Language community, surveys with students in the National Upper Secondary School for deaf and hard of hearing, and analysis of social media posts from certain relevant actors. The result shows both communicative, social organizational possibilities and hindrances for inclusion as well as a community through exclusion. With support from Luhmanns theory of social systems, the results indicates that different inclusive mechanisms are an important aspect of community building among for Deaf and Hard of Hearing youths.
