Sammanfattning: The purpose of this thesis was to identify the manager’s and employees’ perception of leadership, and how they compare to each other. The thesis applied a quantitative research approach where a survey based on a semantic differential scale was used. Fortyfive people participated, employees from four different teams and their respective manager. The result showed that employees expected leadership behaviour that mainly was clear, understanding and delegating responsibility. The managers perceived that employees expected leadership behaviours such as understanding, driven, delegating responsibility and requested others to solve problems. The study indicated both similarities and differences between managers and employees perceptions about expectations. The result showed significant differences regarding four of the questions. Furthermore, the findings showed that managers and their employees shared the same perception in many questions. One conclusion was that the leadership behaviours both parties generally shared perceptions about were relationship oriented. The behaviours that the parties had different perceptions about were the task oriented. Another conclusion was that expectations of leaders were different for different teams and situations and that managers have to adapt to this.
