Sammanfattning: The purpose of this essay was to find an understanding of what factors which affect refugee reception in two municipalities in the southern part of Sweden, the municipality of Vellinge and the municipality of Landskrona. Three interviews were made with three local politicians and these interviews were then analysed using postcolonial theory. With the help of Matthew J. Gibney we identified seven factors which aided us in the analysis these were: Integration history, Ethnic affinity, Determining who is a refugee, The wealth of the municipality, The housing market, The labour market and The action of other municipalities. We found that these factors were all useful in creating an understanding of refugee reception in the two municipalities. However they affected the municipalities differently. The municipality of Vellinge claimed that economic factors were the most important when deciding not to receive any refugees. Nevertheless we found that factors like ethnic affinity and integration history played an important part in the decision making as well. In the municipality of Landskrona we found that refugee reception to a large extent was independent of politic decisions and was instead something that continued without involvement from the ruling in the municipality. Refugee reception in Landskrona can instead be understood as dependent on the traditions in the municipality, on its ethnic affinity and on its housing market.
