Sammanfattning: Transformational leadership is one of the most influential theories in leadership research today and its benefits have been highlighted from several perspectives. The purpose of the following study was to examine the relationship between personality traits in the HEXACO model, a contender to the established five-factor model, and the appreciation of transformational leadership style. The data was collected through an Internet-based survey that contained statements retrieved from two standardised self-assessment scales: 60 item HEXACO-PI-R and Transformational Leadership measure. The former scale measured the participants’ personality traits and the latter scale was modified to measure the participants’ appreciation of transformational leadership behaviours. The survey was aimed at people who were over 18 years and who had ever had a job and a manager. The study’s result was based on 200 answers. The study’s correlation analysis showed that the personality traits Emotionality (r = .15), Extraversion (r = .28), and Conscientiousness (r = .14) were significantly positively correlated with the appreciation of transformational leadership style, where Extraversion was the trait with the highest correlation. The regression analysis conducted in the study showed a significant positive effect of Emotionality (β = .16) and Extraversion (β = .26) on the appreciation of transformational leadership style. Once again, Extraversion was the personality trait that had the strongest effect. The results of the study illustrated that transformational leadership was appreciated to varying degrees depending on the individual’s personality. The conclusion was drawn that a transformational leadership style can be useful for and appreciated by extroverted employees.
