Sammanfattning: This paper presents an introduction to the crime genre of film, and its initial and global development. The purpose is to examine how the leading character of four different Swedish crime films is being portrayed, and to find out whether or not any stereotyping occurs. Previous research of the Swedish crime film has focused on the police character, police culture and the long list of Swedish police film. This paper draws attention to a gap in the Swedish research regarding an important element of the crime film: the interpretation of the criminal character. The main issue of the paper is how the criminal character is being interpreted in Swedish crime film.
