Visuella nyheter: en studie av interaktiva nyheter på mobilen

Sammanfattning: This thesis studies visual news articles on mobile devices and specifically the use of interactive elements. In this emerging class of articles the reader is invited to be the co-creator and an active part crafting the story. Looking at three examples of visual news in data visualisation this thesis studies ways of integrating these ideas and finding a balance between an author-driven and reader-driven approach. The articles chosen go through usability tests that provide interesting insight into how the test participants interact with them along with their thoughts and feelings. The interactive elements are appreciated but not always instantly intuitive and the relatively small screen of the smartphone presents difficulties in presenting complex data visualisations. The thesis also discusses how a range of skills are required to create visual news and that the newsroom organization might be a stumbling block for success.
