Sammanfattning: This report contains an evaluation of personal safety in case of fire at Plus-huset, Avesta, Sweden. The building has two storeys above ground, a shopping mall at ground level and a hotel on the first floor. The evaluation concentrates mainly on the hotel with its night club for up to 500 guests and has been made using the computer models CFAST and Simulex together with hand calculations for smoke filling, rate of heat release and egress time. Property and structural damage have not been taken into account. The report includes suggestions for improvement of the building’s fire safety design. The conclusion is that there are many flaws in the design that need to be corrected before the building can be said to be safe. For example the walls and ceilings in the night club are covered with wood and the hotel rooms are not safe for smoke movements from room to room.
