Förlossningsrädsla : en kvalitativ intervjustudie om hur barnmorskor upplever sitt stöd till förlossningsrädda kvinnor
Today 17 percent of pregnant women suffer from moderate fear of childbirth and six percent of severe fear of childbirth. The experience of being afraid affects the women on a deep level. The self steam in relation to giving birth debilitates. There is a lack of studies made in this subject. The study is based on six interviews with midwives working in two different delivery wards in the Western part of Sweden. The aim is to describe midwifes approach to the women who feel fear of giving birth. The authors wanted to describe midwives own experience of supporting these women. Therefore a phenomenological perspective was chosen. A qualitative interview which was chosen in this study helps us to find answers in the life world of the interviewed midwifes. This gives us the possibility to describe midwifes lived experience of supporting women with fear associated to childbirth. In the result five themes approach: to identify fear, to make the woman feel safe during childbirth, to be there for the woman who suffers from fear associated with childbirth, support to the man/partner, to individualize caring and to follow up the woman/couple after childbirth. As authors and midwife students we hope that this study can lead to a wider understanding and increased knowledge for better ways on caring for these women and couples who suffer from fear associated to child birth.
