Sammanfattning: As China’s economy and presence around the world continue to grow, so does their influence. The Chinese engagement in Africa began 70 years ago and China is now the most significant foreign actor on the continent. This qualitive case-study investigates what China’s Africa strategy is. By using the theories of Soft Power and Economic Statecraft light is shed on different explanations as to why that is. A study of Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo is made to show what China’s Africa strategy can entail in specific countries. The Ibrahim Index of African Governance is applied to show the development when China has been present in the country. I conclude that China’s Africa strategy is comprehensive and incorporates several fields. China is successful in terms of gaining more influence throughout the African continent. If the growth of China’s Soft Power and influence is sustained, an expanding consent of regarding a stricter and less transparent regime style can be created.
