Narrativ förmåga på svenska : En- och flerspråkiga fyra- och sexåringar berättar till bilder

Detta är en Magister-uppsats från Uppsala universitet/Logopedi

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study was to investigate the narrative competence of monolingual Swedish speaking children and bilingual Turkish and Swedish speaking children of ages 4 and 6. The focus of the study was narrative production on a macrostructural level which was investigated with the picture-based task ENNI. The method consisted of first developing a scoring model for the level 2 stories in ENNI (A2 and B2), based on the story grammar model, and then analyze the already collected data of 94 children. Results were compared between groups and the relationship with the length of the story (TNW) was investigated. The results showed a significant development from age 4 to 6 for both the monolingual and the bilingual children, although the bilingual children showed a larger spread in their scores at 6 years than the monolinguals. A significant difference was also found between the two language groups, but only for story A2, where the monolinguals scored higher than the bilinguals. For the monolinguals, there was also a difference between the stories, with significantly higher mean scores on A2 than on B2. A linear regression showed no clear relationship between the scores on macrostructural production and story length (TNW). The conclusion of this study is in line with earlier studies showing that there is a development of the narrative competence on a macrostructural level from ages 4 to 6. Although this was true for the bilingual children on group level, the results of the bilingual six-year-olds showed a wider distribution compared to the monolingual six-year-olds. Furthermore the results differed significantly between the stories, making it clear that the specific picture sequence used has a large influence on the children’s results.
