Försvarsmaktens militära profession

Sammanfattning: In 2016 the Swedish armed forces published a control document, Vår militära profession, which specified the new vision of the Swedish military profession. This study’s purpose is to investigate if Swedish officers view on their profession corresponds with the vision from the control document. Nine qualitative interviews have been conducted with officers of the Southern Skåne Regiment. The study has a hermeneutic approach to interpret and analyse the collected empirical data. To theorize and explain the results from the respondents, theories by Bengt Abrahamsson and Samuel P. Huntington on profession has been used as well as indicators from the control document. The result shows that respondent’s perception of military profession correlates well with the control document. One explanation for this is that the Swedish military academy educates cadets in military profession. On the other hand, the respondents felt that not enough of the education and training within the academy was practical which also corresponds with the theories. The vision and policy regarding core value is perceived as obvious by the respondents but that it should be implemented as a natural part in everything the military does and should not be an element on its own.
