Sammanfattning: The purpose of our study is to from a sociological perspective, illustrate individuals with gambling addiction and gain an understanding of their experiences and actions regarding the path into gambling addiction. This study was based on a qualitative research method in which empirical data collection was conducted through eight qualitative interviews, in order to investigate the experience and prevalence of adult gambling addiction and what effect this had on the individual. What makes gambling addiction unique is that it is a social phenomenon that affects many and cannot be simply linked to a certain class or origin. It is an addiction that sneaks on until you are stuck. And since it is also an addiction you can exercise completely separated from the public in your own home, it often takes a very long time before your immediate surroundings see that there are problems. In Sweden many of us are doing well, you have a huge social protection and do not have to fight every day for survival. We have a good life compared to many other countries. Previous research shows that many adults have experience of this kind of addiction and without the right help it can lead to them being left in a situation they cannot cope with. The collected empirical analysis was based on the theorists Lars-Erik Berg, Anthony Giddens, Randall Collins and Ulrich Beck. We could conclude that gambling addiction is a societal problem and needs more attention, something our informants also mentioned during the interviews. It is therefore of sociological interest to investigate which social and social circumstances contribute to the individual's influence and consequences games of money have had.
