Sammanfattning: The purpose of this essay is to examine what it is that characterizes trustworthiness among students when reading news. Further it seeks to understand how this credibility is established and how it is maintained. In someway everyone is exposed to news but perhaps not everyone have developed a way to actually comprehend what can be interpreted as trustworthy news and what can not. Our aim is therefore to establish a clearer way for this procedure. We conducted three focus groups, with a total of 12 participants who all were attending Uppsala university. During these focus groups we also executed an experiment in which we removed all the information of which news medium stood behind each article. All that the participants were left with was the text and the author, so that they in no way could know which news outlet stood behind each article. With the appliance of the theoretical frameworks on source credibility from Reich (2011) and Matthes & Kohring (2007) we could further develop an understanding for what really made up trustworthy news. The most interesting findings were the six different themes that according to the students were characteristic for trustworthiness in news, as well as the actual process of coming to this conclusion which the participants showed. These themes were as follows: “Established sources”,“Objectivity/Subjectivity”, “Agenda”, “Past experience”, “Formalities” and “Perspective of time”.  In the end we confirmed a lot of Reich and Matthes & Kohrings theories but in addition we did further develop some new aspects that had not been touched upon earlier, most prominently the different themes that are of importance to understand what characterises trustworthiness in news
