Sammanfattning: A good environment is important for today's society and for future generations, which is why the world’s countries have implemented a climate agreement called the Paris Agreement. The purpose of this agreement is to limit global warming and Sweden is one of the countries investing in having zero net emissions by 2045. The construction and real estate sector contributes to a large amount of the carbon dioxide emissions, among building materials concrete contributes to the largest carbon dioxide emissions. This study examines how the climate is affected by building standards, building methods and the building material concrete. It also studies whether concrete can be an environmentally friendly material. Therefore, this study has examined two buildings, one is from The Million Program and the other one is from today's buildings. The buildings are compared based on their environmental impact during the building's construction phase. The study is based on calculating concrete quantities, reinforcement quantities and concrete quality from the construction blueprints. Thereafter, the calculated amounts are put into a climate calculation program called BM, BM provides the amount of carbon dioxide emissions for each building.Based on previous literature, climate calculations and life cycle analysis, the study will answer and draw conclusions about two questions: • How much is the climate affected by the building materials and the construction method? • Can a concrete frame be an environmentally friendly material? The report has two conclusions, firstly to use lower concrete quality and lower amount of reinforcement reduces the concrete's climate impact and thus makes it more environmentally friendly, and secondly the choice of construction method can affect how much concrete is used in a building and thus its climate impact.
