Personligt-, konstnärligt-, musikaliskt eller unikt uttryck? En aktionsstudie på ett estetiskt program, hur kommunikation kring kunskapskravet rörande personligt uttryck kan underlättas
Sammanfattning: This essay is a qualitative action study that through interviews studies how teachers and students in an aesthetics program in highschool defines and thinks about the term “personal expression” and what the student should do to meet the expectations for fulfilling the requirements concerning that particular grade. The purpose is to increase the knowledge about what differences and similarities there are, learn about the students perspective and suggest pedagogical actions based on the results that can favor the communication about the assessment between students and teacher. A review of the literature shows that this subject has not been researched above bachelor level, has omitted the student perspective and has found difficulties in defining the term. This together with my own experience of teaching this class is the background for this study. The results together with previous papers indicate that personal expression has different sub themes. This study found three sub themes that all participants mentioned. These three were how a vocalist sings, their body language and facial expressions. The descriptions of these sub themes were somewhat different between the participants. The biggest difference between the students and the teachers was that the teacher emphasized how the student reasoned and argued for their artistic choices about how to perform a particular song. The students thought that emphasis was on the performance itself. The pedagogical actions that were suggested were to hold a jointed class or classes around this subject where the teacher could tell and show the students what to do to meet these requirements along with an open discussion about the topic of personal expression. The results also indicated difficulties in differentiating the term with related terms such as musical and artistic expression. Therefore, definitions including both overlap and distinctions based on the result of this study together with previous ones also where proposed.
