Att leda implementeringen av PAX i skolan : En kvalitativ studie om rektors uppfattning kring implementeringen av en evidensbaserad metod

Sammanfattning: In recent time, the value of creating peaceful and focused classrooms to favour childrens’ learning has been emphasized in Swedish schools. This has, in some parts of the country, led to the implementation of an evidence based pedagogical method called PAX i skolan, that has shown to promote such values. The principal is in most cases responsible for the overall pedagogical development at a specific school, and is therefore naturally involved in managing the implementation of new teaching methods, such as PAX i skolan. For that reason we argue that there is a need to examine the principal’s perspective on his/her role in the implementation process. This has been done by conducting eight semi-structured interviews with eight separate principals regarding their perspective of their role in managing the implementation. The interviews were then transcripted and analyzed using content analysis. With the theoretical framework of practice architectures, which highlights arrangements’ effect on individual practice, the study has been able to summarize and show how some principals experience their role in managing the implementation.  The results indicate that the principals see their main tasks in the implementation to be: to arrange and enable proper training opportunities for teachers, to create space and time for peer learning through dialogue among teachers and to conduct reoccurring follow-up sessions with affected teachers. The decisions that principals take throughout the implementation process seem to be highly affected by contextual factors, especially financial aspects.
