Sammanfattning: Background: Both acute and chronic pain conditions are increasing in the world and pain is considered a global public health problem and is the most common reason why patients visit the emergency department. To assess pain, the nurse must perform a pain analysis. Pain analysis is the basis for pain treatment and pain relief with good effect increases patients' quality of life. Untreated pain can lead to physical and mental illness, which has negative consequences for both the individual, healthcare, and society. Knowledge of patients' experiences of pain analysis in the emergency department can contribute to pain analysis of higher quality and thus adequate pain relief at an early stage. Purpose: The purpose was to investigate patients' experience of pain analysis in the emergency department. Method: Literature review with descriptive design. Databases used were PubMed and CINAHL and the included studies had qualitative methods. Quality review was performed with SBU's review template Assessment of studies with qualitative method and analysis was performed with qualitative content analysis. Results: Three categories and six subcategories were identified. The categories were caring needs, communication and person-centered care and subcategories were pain relief, relationship with the nurse, information, empowerment, the patient's story, and participation. The results showed that pain relief was the biggest caring need for the patients. The relationship between the nurse and the patient was described as important for the experience of security and to feel calm. Information was important for the patients' experience of the care and strengthened their empowerment. Person-centered care was highly valued. Participation was important for the patients when deciding on pain treatment.  Conclusion: The patients felt that pain analysis led to better pain relief when the nurse had a person-centered approach and the patients were involved.
