Sammanfattning: Background: An unbalanced type 2 diabetes mellitus leads to rising blood sugar levels. To achieve balance in blood sugar values ​​and reduce the risk of complications, self-care is an important factor. In self-care, lifestyle change has a central role. When health care professionals are aware that people are different and uses a person-centered approach, each individual can be supported in their own care. With an increased understanding of what individuals with type 2 diabetes experience as supportive, health care professionals can more easily support the individual in self-care and thereby reduce the risk of complications. Aim: The purpose of this literature review was to investigate what individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus experienced as supportive of lifestyle change. Method: Literature overview with descriptive design where 11 scientific articles were included. All studies were quality audited using a review template. Themes were built based on the content of the articles and then the material was compiled into a result. Results: The results showed that the facilitating factors that were considered to support lifestyle change were the health care professionals' approach and attitudes as well as the relationship between the individual and the health care staff. Internal factors such as personal development, internal motivation and experience of health were also perceived as facilitating. External factors that facilitated lifestyle changes were distance contact as a complement to traditional physical contact, having knowledge and control and support from the environment. Conclusion: In order to best support lifestyle change, the approach and attitudes of health care staff need to be perceived as supportive. The personal development and experience of support combined with having knowledge and feeling control over their situation benefits the change work. The flexibility of care is important to meet each individual need.
