Den olegitimerade professionen - en kvalitativ studie om kuratorns yrkesroll inom barn- och ungdomspsykiatrin

This essay is a qualitative study with the purpose to explore how the counsellor in the child- and adolescent psychiatry experience their own professional role. We also wanted to get an insight into how the counsellor cooperate in teams with other professionals in terms of: multidisciplinary, professional roles and knowledge. We based the study on seven semi-structured interviews with counsellors from different teams. We used role theory and professionalization theory to analyse the empirical material. The study shows that the counsellor’s identifies themselves in a greater extent with their further education than with the title of counsellor or the basic social work education. In terms of cooperation we discovered that the counsellor’s professional role and knowledge is highly appreciated in the team. However the majority states that they don’t have any tasks that specifically belongs to only their profession and that the other professional groups in the team could perform their duties as well. Because of this all the counsellors in this study experienced an uncertainty about their future role in psychiatry.
