Sammanfattning: Background: SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) is a virus that has caused a worldwide pandemic. The pandemic has led to an increased burden on Sweden's healthcare. The increased workload has contributed to an increased need for hospital's patient capacity and specifically intensive care units in Sweden. Many surgeries have had to be canceled in order to provide surgical staff to covid-intensive care units, where anesthesia nurses have had to work as the charge nurse ofcovid-19 patients requiring critical care. The education of anesthesia nurses differs from the education of the critical care nurse. Therefore, it is considered of great importance to illustrate the anesthesia nurses' perceived competence and nursing in the care of covid-19 patients requiring critical care. Previous research about this subject is limited. Aim: To illustrate anesthesia nurses experienced competence and nursing in care of the critical care requiring covid-19 patients. Method: A quantitative method was used with a web survey that consisted of two parts with questioning addressing competence and nursing responsibility, was sent to nurse anesthetists in Västra Götalandsregionen in Sweden. Result: The results show that anesthesia nurses experience a lack of knowledge about fluid and nutrition support. The dialysis treatment and in some part of the nursing care, when working in the intensive care unit with the covid-19 patient. The anesthesia nurses have experienced at some point during their time on covid-icu worry and anxiety about not being able to perform the work in a totally patient-safe way. Parts that have been experienced as less difficult are monitoring of ventilation, circulation, and sedimentation depth. Conclusion: In order to maintain a patient-safe workplace in a new working environment, it is required that converted staff gets the necessary expertise and training education. In order for anesthesia staff to feel safe and comfortable in their workplace, they need to feel that they have sufficient knowledge of the intensive care environment and the care of a covid-19 infected patient, otherwise there is a great risk for emotional and physical exhaustion among the working staff.
