Sammanfattning: Layout is a professional term which means to determine the position of construction elements. Layout is done throughout the construction process, it is the stage linking the blueprints to the real placement of the elements such as walls. There are many factors that can cause a less precise measuring, such asbad accuracy, lack of experience, bad weather conditions, or instruments that are not properly maintained. This will affect the construction project both in terms of time and economy. Because of a failing layout, consequences follow for work teams who depend on this being correctly done. Using JM AB as an example, the purpose of this thesis is to investigate the reasons which leads to inaccuracy in the layout process. In order to accomplish a result interviews and a survey has been done. In addition, two on- site visits have been made and research in the company’s economic follow-up for the projects. A possible solution for companies is to come up with a new role which combines two earlier titles into one. If they were to combine the work of a measuring engineer with a supervisor, the role would be more attractive and possible to grow within. Today there’s a lot of personnel who moves on to new challenges and we think that the new role could be a solution to this this problem. Weather conditions is also a problem. Rain, ice formation and strong sun are examples of conditions that creates difficulty for the layout. More research is required in this area.
