Socker eller honung - vilket är mest miljövänligt?

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Miljövetenskaplig utbildning

Sammanfattning: Honey is generally considered to be a healthier option than white sugar, and humans can replace sugar with honey and still maintain a healthy diet. While effects on the body caused by sugar and honey have been investigated, the environmental impact of organic sugar and organic honey has not yet been investigated and compared. The purpose of this study was to perform an overview of the environmental impact of organic sugar and organic honey and to compare them. A literary review, where six environmental aspects have been selected for further study, was done to achieve this. The results show that the negative environmental impacts of organic honey are that it may contain pesticides and that keeping honeybees can contribute to a loss of biodiversity. The negative environmental impacts of growing organic sugar are more monocultures, loss of biodiversity, decrease in earth quality, particle pollution and usage of water. The positive environmental impacts of organic honey are resilience, circulation of nutrients, pollination and that honey can be used in environmental monitoring. The positive environmental impacts of organic sugar are that the bagasse can replace fossil fuels, that it can be used to absorb pollutants and that it can be used to make other materials. The conclusions from this study are that land use in sugarcane cultivation causes the biggest negative environmental impact and pollination from honeybees causes the biggest positive environmental impact.
