Sammanfattning: Throughout history, politics has been dominated by men and the phenomenon still exists today in many parts of the world. When women are not given access to the public sphere, their social impact inevitably takes place in the private. Nevertheless, the view of the woman as non-political has led to these actions not being entirely recognized. There are also those who argue that this approach also exists in the asylum process when women flee the persecution of their political opinion. Feminists and researchers in the field of migration law argue that the view of what is considered political according to the refugee definition is also characterized by the male perspective. They imply that the attitude reduces the different ways of being politically engaged and therefor indirectly discriminate women who are seeking political asylum. The literature also states that the applicant's gender affects the assessment of asylum. Women are in some cases therefore not considered to be credible in their political positions even when they practice "classical" activism. Instead, women are considered persecuted for being women, according to the gender- related ground. The refugee convention does not statue a clear difference between the grounds of prosecution, but the result risks categorizing women into a single specific oppression. The problems summarized above are explained by the fact that the asylum assessment is strongly influenced by a stereotypical discourse on "the Third World" women. Based on postcolonial theory, the discourse is criticized for reproducing beliefs about "the Third World". Women are described as “the oppressed ones” and the men as oppressors. Based on other feminist theories, women are also being portrayed in relation to a male family member and viewed as they are not a part of the political agenda.
