Sammanfattning: The research area in the study includes autonomous and remote-controlled vessels with or without seafarers, where the vessels are controlled without or to a certain extent at a Remote-Control Center (RCC). In the study context, these are referred to as "autonomous vessels". It is a digital transformation that requires a comprehensive adjustment and change in existing business models, business processes and organizational structures, which should be reviewed quickly before the vessels are introduced and processes are autonomized. This is a challenge that the maritime transport sector faces today and which in this study has been chosen to study by having a case study at Farjerederiet, which is a profit center at the Swedish Transport Administration.The purpose of the study is to examine the influence of digitalization on a maritimeorganization, its business model and operational execution when “smart ships” are introducedin a shipping company. In the study, a qualitative method has been applied where a triangulardata collection method has been applied through literature collection, interviews, andobservation. As a result of the stated methods, both empirical and theoretical evidence showthat it is an organization that today is undergoing a radical change as a result of the radicaltechnological change.The results show that the rigid structure needs to become more agile by increasingtransparency through improved communication in both the vertical and horizontal management. Furthermore, research shows that the business needs to work more processdrivenwith a process owner who has a networking role that ensures that the change agentscan be implemented incrementally and continuously.To maintain and manage the vessels during its life cycle, preventive maintenance isproposed through condition monitoring together with the Reliability Centered Maintenance(RCM) method.The study's conclusion reflects the need for increased communication with proposedinformation systems that facilitate direct communication, change at all levels, change also at policy level where the need for competence can be met with close collaboration withuniversities to meet the new knowledge needs in IT solutions.
