Lättare sagt än gjort eller lättare gjort än sagt? Frontex & säkerhetiseringen av flyktingar vid EU:s yttre gränser

Sammanfattning: This study intends to examine whether the EU border agency Frontex, has maintained a securitization of refugees during the year 2013. It also examines whether there is a discrepancy between Frontex's speech and action and what the implications of their work could lead to for refugees. Frontex job can be seen as important in terms of their efforts against transnational crime, but they have also been criticized for the lack of respect for the human rights of refugees. The study is a discourse analysis made through a securitization perspective on three of Frontex reports of the year 2013. These are then contrasted against Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the Red Cross view on Frontex. The conclusion is that a clear tendency to securitization can be discerned, but mainly because of their activities and not their manner of speaking. It is partly a discrepancy between speech and action, as what is being said is not always followed, such as fundamental rights. This may therefore result in refugees in need of protection, being denied that right.
