Sammanfattning: Abstract Author: Anton Bengtsson and Antonio Peralta Title: To grow up on the right or the wrong side of town: A comparative study between men that have grown up in deprived and non-deprived neighbourhoods. [Translated title] Supervisor: Maria Bangura Arvidsson The aim of this paper is to highlight how masculinity can be different in different circumstances. We have interviewed four men who has been growing up in deprived neighbourhoods and four men who has been growing up in non-deprived neighbourhoods. Our focus was to understand how their social environment impacted their masculinity during their adolescence. Their ages ranged from 30 to 35. The men had different experiences in relation to the ideals surrounding them but all of them felt that they had to change their behaviour due to the norms that existed in their life. The themes we found in the interviews was school, role models and to be different in different places. Some of our conclusions was that some of the men felt that the norms regarding masculinity changed with age and that their wellbeing was affected by the norms surrounding them.
