Skattkammarplatsen : En kritisk diskursanalys av motiveringer och argument för folkbibliotekets demokratiska roll i samhället

Sammanfattning: This is a master thesis in library- and information science. The purpose of this master's thesis is to investigate how senders of regional and local library plans in three Swedish regions formulate regarding the library’s democratic role in society. Throughout the library plans a societal change is described when it comes to migration and the media's credibility crisis. There are two different discourses that are found in the material who present different approaches to the public library's role in democracy. In the enlightenment discourse the public library is described in the traditional role of being a meeting place and a place of enlightenment. In the market friendly discourse the public library is described as instrumental for example advertising the region it is a part of, which can legitimize the public library's further existence.
