Föräldrars och behandlares upplevelse och erfarenheter av det föräldrastöd som erbjudits när barn genomgått traumabehandling - En kvalitativ studie

Sammanfattning: This study aimed to investigate parents’ and therapists’ experiences of parental support during a child’s trauma treatment. To investigate this, seven semi-structured interviews were conducted and analyzed through a thematic analysis. The participants in this study involved four parents and three therapists. The analysis resulted in three main themes; The availability of parental support, The time before treatment and Support as a resource. The result showed varying experiences of parental support. The participants described a limited availability of trauma treatment due to high workload within the Swedish psychiatric care system. The results showed comprehensive needs of parental support as an addition to children's trauma. The participants described that parents tend to get negatively emotionally affected by a child’s trauma experience. The results showed varying experiences for parental support from the perspective of parental well-being. Although all participants described parental support as being helpful in the practical role of a parent in everyday life. The results also showed that parents lacked a follow up after the concluded trauma treatment. The conclusions show that further research regarding parental support within children's trauma treatment is necessary to improve the parental aspect within the trauma field.
