Sammanfattning: Young carers are a hidden group in the social society. Studies show that children who hasparents with an addiction problem and/or mental health issues, often take a bigresponsibility in the home which can lead to negative consequences through childrens life. The purpose of this study was therefore to investigate how professional work with youngcarers look like in a middlesized city in the middle of Sweden in families where there isaddictionproblems and/or mental health issues. The study was conducted with a qualitativeapproach with help of semi-structured interviews, were five employees working for the city ofchoice were interviewed. The empirical material which the interviews resulted in, wereanalyzed with the help of relevant concepts which are being brought up bychildhoodsociology. The result confirms that young carers are a hidden group, and that thereis no preventing and supporting work specifically for young carers as the one that can be seeninternationally. On the other hand might young carers be included in the support that the cityoffers to all children. The study also gives suggestions on a combination of participation andcaring in the work with young carers.
