En studie av ämnesklassifikationssystemet Outline.

Sammanfattning: This essay deals with classification of images using the subject classification system Outline. This classification system is used in regional museums and they do often have large collections of pictures. The regional museums have their main focus of culture history. The purpose is to look at Outline from four different aspects: 1. In what way is the system constructed looking at classification theory, 2. How are you supposed to analyse a picture when using Outline? 3. What does the environment look like where Outline is used? 4. What does the museum staff think about Outline as their work tool? To answer these questions I have read literature and made an qualitative inquiry. My main results are that Outline is constructed in a rather simple way concerning classification theory. When using Outline you can only analyse an image from what it looks like and not classify abstract things like feelings and emotions. The museum staff seems to be rather satisfied with Outline. My conclusions are that the system seems to work well in the environment, the regional museums, where it is used. They do have a distinct culture history perspective of their pictures, which make Outline working good, even if you can not classify feelings or other abstract things using it.
