Revolution eller militärkupp? - En studie av maktskiftet i Egypten 2013
Sammanfattning: With this qualitative case study I intended to explain the power change in Egypt 2013 and characterize whether it was a revolution or military coup. I aimed to do this by answering two questions of “How can the power change in Egypt 2013 be explained?” and “How can the power change in Egypt 2013 be characterized, revolution or military coup?”. In this study I disclosed Samuel Huntington’s theory of revolution and military coup. The theory of revolution is categorized into mass revolution, revolutionary revolution, reform revolution and palace revolution. Based on this theory I depicted the protests’ aim, size and duration together with the domestic violence. The theory of military coup is categorized into breakthrough coup, guardian coup and veto coup. Based on this theory I depicted the actors’ role, the absence of order and consensus together with political contradictions. It is concluded that the power change in Egypt 2013 can be explained by Mursi’s performance, the controversial constitution of 2012, political contradictions, domestic violence and the size of protests. It is also concluded that the power change in Egypt 2013 can be characterized as mass revolution and veto coup.
