The Story we share - en antropologisk studie av teaterimprovisation

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialantropologi

Sammanfattning: This anthropological study looks at theater improv as a social phenomena and how experienced theater improvisers explain the experience of theater improv when it is at its best. This study also relate theater improv to the anthropological tradition of performance research, the construction of narratives and navigation of self within the framework of the social structures of society. The study shows that theater improv can be regarded as a ritual making possible for a liminal condition to appear so the improvisers experience communitas. That theater improv gives improvisers an profound experience of an alternative social structure that they relate to their everyday life and try to use as a way of living. This study also shows that the way humans create narratives for meaning and knowledge is the same within the framework of theater improv as outside that framework and that theater improv creates a space for humans to train themselves in the ability to create narrative both within and outside of the framework of theater improv.
