Sammanfattning: This essay investigates how new innovations are introduced and implemented in the transportation system, and serves to illustrate this through a case study of Skånetrafiken and its plans to integrate mobility services. Mobility stands at the precipice of structural changes which will effectively challenge the social position of the car as the most common and self-evident choice of transportation. Similar to how the horse-drawn carriage was rendered obsolete by the car a century ago, so has the car been faced with its own shortcomings: not only in terms of social and ecological aspects, but economic as well. A transportation system that handles more passengers while consuming less resources is required to meet the challenges of both today and tomorrow concerning urbanization, congestion, and pollution. By accommodating passengers’ needs on the basis of shared services, the advocates hope to limit the influence of the car on the transportation system at large. This premise exists in Skåne as well, and was identified in Transportstrategi 2050 as a part of the solution to achieve the designated goals. Transitions such as this are regularly riddled with uncertainties as it is often difficult to predict how the new innovation will affect the system. However, by establishing a high-quality planning process, this unreliability can be quelled. The purpose of the essay is therefore to find out what the planning process looks like in Skåne with the new transport innovation at hand. Through interviews with relevant parties and participants such as Region Skåne, Skånetrafiken, etc. a picture of unison has emerged, depicting how the innovation will be formulated, although the road to reaching that goal remains somewhat rocky. A number of strengths and weaknesses have been identified by examining this work based on aspects of innovation diffusion and planning of infrastructure, as well as the concomitant factors of uncertainty. The conclusions can hopefully be utilized as guidance in order to eliminate some degree of uncertainty related to the work of integrated mobility services.
