Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to investigate how year nine students are analyzing how history is used today by different groups of people through a international and local use of history. This is investigated since research has shown that students in some cases have difficulties when it comes to use of history. The purpose of this study have been examined through two structured focus group interviews with an in interview guide with inspiration from Kenneth Nordgren’s model on how use of history can be analyzed as a communication chain between encoder, message and decoder. The model has been used since it is partly created as support for students in their analyzing on how use of history can be seen as communication between encoder, message and decoder. The essays analytical starting points have been Kenneth Nordgren’s terms: message, encoder, decoder and also Klas-Göran Karlsson’s use of history typology, both have made it possible to analyze and interpret the student’s conversations. The study’s main result is that Nordgrens model with belonging questions were favorable for the students when in came to analyzing use of history. This since the students in the focus groups showed a good ability to analyze both the local and international usage of messages, senders’ motives together with using history and also an understanding on how different people or decoders can react and act after they have acknowledged a message with help from Nordgren’s analyze questions. The model’s positive outcome is this study’s primary knowledge contribution since it has not been tested with an empirical approach before.
