Jag vill inte vara ett levande farthinder! En fallstudie om cykelfartsgatan som trafik lösning i Göteborg ur ett cyklistperspektiv
Sammanfattning: Cities have started promoting the bicycle as a sustainable transport alternative to the car. Some of them have built bicycle streets.Bicycle streets are 30 km/h roads, where bikes are the prioritized mode of transport. Motorized vehicles and cyclists share the road where the cyclist can use the whole lane and thus determine the speed. The bicycle street was implemented in Swedish law in 2020.In Gothenburg, a similar traffic solution is practiced, the bicycle speed street. The street is a 50 km/h road, where cyclists are led to determine the speed by the design of the pavement. The string of asphalt in the middle lined by cobblestones is supposed to be self-explanatory. The street has no additional signage. The bicycle speed street is only used exceptionally in dense urban spaces that lack space for bicycle paths. The aim of this thesis is to study the bicycle speed street as a traffic solution in dense urban spaces from a cyclist’s perspective. Qualitative interviews were conveyed with two traffic planners in Gothenburg. A web-based survey provided for cyclist’s perceptions of safety and function of the bicycle speed streets in Gothenburg. The design of the bicycle speed street was compared with the bicycle street. The results show that cyclists perceive the bicycle speed street as relatively safe, men more than women. Cyclists consider the street to be an acceptable solution when built according to the recommendations. However, the design is not self-explanatory for neither cyclists nor motorists. The bicycle speed street is a compromise solution where pedestrians, sojourn and on-street parking have higher priority than bicycle traffic. As a conclusion the bicycle speed street is not a bicycle solution. What cyclists ask for is more like the bicycle street. The bicycle street should than have a speed limit of 20 km/h.
