The aim of this study was to investigate how the hospital counsellors interpretive the meeting with patients and the related to the patient in the palliative care. More specific the study aimed to highlight the professional perspective regarding the interpretations of the interaction in the meeting that occurs in the palliative care and then with the help of Goffman ́s dramaturgical concepts as belief in the role, façade, front- and rear region and team analyse how this interpretation can be understandable. The method of the study was qualitative interviews and five hospital counsellor was interviewed.

Results showed that the counsellor ́s role as professional is important to withhold in the palliative care and is a significant part of how the interaction in the meetings becomes. Depending how good the hospital counsellor’s appearance is as a professional the meetings take different turns. The implementing of Goffman ́s dramaturgical concepts in the analyse presents a different aspect and fields were the hospital counsellor ́s are present and how the interaction in meetings can occur. The environment for the meeting can become a challenge in withholding a professional role because the need to help makes it easy to take on a different role and become private in the meetings with the patients and the related to the patient.
