Åtvidabergs öde i Facits händer? : En analys av hur lokalpressen speglade samhället Åtvidaberg under Facitkrisen, samt vilka åtgärder Åtvidabergs Industribyggen vidtog för att möta upp Facitkrisen 1972-1982

Sammanfattning: At the end of the 1960s, the business community in the small town Åtvidaberg was dominated by the worldwide company Facit AB. Åtvidaberg was highly dependent on Facit AB, which made the municipality vulnerable in case something should happen. In 1970, the labor market situation was good in Åtvidaberg thanks to the Facit expansion but the situation would change rapidly during the following years due to the Facit crisis. In October 1972, the company was sold to Electrolux. In 1972, AB Åtvidabergs Industries was founded to prevent the crisis by attracting companies to Åtvidaberg. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how Åtvidaberg’s local press reflected the industrial community Åtvidaberg during the Facit crisis in 1972 and to investigate in what preventive measures took Åtvidaberg Industribyggen in order to meet the ongoing crisis. The full study examines a ten-year period, from 1972 to 1982.   The result shows that the local press reflects a troubled Åtvidaberg in 1972. The Facit crisis gets a lot of attention where many issues are raised in connection with the sale of Facit to Electrolux. However, the situation is still under control in Åtvidaberg who suffer little from the crisis. 1976 is the year when the second Facit crisis becomes apparent when problems grow for Facit as well as the labor market in Åtvidaberg Municipality. It is at this point Åtvidaberg Industries seriously starts to discuss measures to promote the local business community. I will also describe a didactic perspective where I discuss how I as a future teacher could work with archive material in history teaching which I have used in this paper, in the teaching of history.
