Hur kan en maskros växa ur asfalt? : En intervjustudie med vuxna maskrosbarn om vad som varit avgörande för deras livsutveckling
Sammanfattning: In this study, we examine how some children can develop well despite growing up in a dysfunctional family. We also focus on what our respondents have perceived as helpful by social workers and other professionals, and what their recommendations for practice are. We interviewed six adults who identified themselves with the term “resilient child” and analyzed these interviews by a thematic analysis. Results: All our respondents were aided by their intrinsic personal characteristics; such as being social, gifted in school and having a positive outlook on life. They also mentioned that they applied different coping strategies growing up, and pointed to the importance of gaining insight about their parent's problems. In addition, the respondents all underlined the meaning of their participation in spare time activities during their childhood. They also appreciated the social workers and other professionals who acknowledged them and went beyond their usual work routine to help them when they grew up. In young adulthood, most of our respondents found therapy to be useful to process their childhood. The respondents stressed the importance for social workers of having relevant knowledge and the ability to create a safe atmosphere for children to open up and talk about their problems.
