Ny flyktingkris, nya samhälleliga utmaningar? : En jämförande textanalys av medierapporteringen om flyktinginvandring från Jugoslavien 1992 och Syrien 2015/2016.

Sammanfattning: Aim and main questions: This study aims to examine differences and similarities in how the swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter portrayed the refugee immigrations during these wars. The main questions are: •How didDagens Nyheterportray the immigration of refugees from the wars in Balkans in 1992 compared to refugees from the Syria war in 2015/2016?•What themes or patterns can be distinguished in the news articles? Main results: The results indicates that there is an expectationthat refugees should work and contribute to the Swedish society and that the subject of financial consequences is characterized by two aspects; one that indicates that refugees strengthens the Swedish economy through working and another indicates that refugee immigration is a burden for the economy. Although, the refugee immigration is portrayed as a problem during both periods. Refugees are portrayed with more sympathy and their situations are raisedby individuals from civil society during 2015/2016. The articles depicta perspective that shows a concern and fear of what problems themassive immigration mightcause to the society.
