Mammors erfarenheter av amningsstöd på BB : En enkätstudie
Sammanfattning: Aim: To investigate and highlight mothers experience of breastfeeding support during their time at postnatal ward. Method: A web-based survey with a quantitative cross-sectional design. The criteria’s for included was that the latest child should be no older than 0-1 years of age and that the mother would have had a desire to breastfeed. Result: Based on n=191 mothers, there were 54% first-time mothers and 46% mothers with previous children, and the average time at the postnatal ward 2 days. A third of the first-time mothers and half of the others where happy with the support and help that had been offered during their stay. Nearly 80 % of the first-time mothers and 60% of the others got hands-on help and grabbing the mothers’ breast. The survey showed that more than whished they could have gotten more verbal instructions rather than someone touching them physically. Almost half of the first-time mothers didn’t feel safe with breastfeeding and it wasn’t working properly when it was time to leave the postnatal ward to go home. On the other hand, for many of the mothers having previous children, breastfeeding was working well when it was time to go home. Many did not received information where to turn after going home. Conclusion: The result of this study showed both positive and negative experiences with the support around breastfeeding, there were also some clear differences between first-time mothers and mothers that had experienced childbirth before. You could see an increase in motivation for breastfeeding once the baby was born. The other clear result that came to light was the wishes to have more support during their stay at the ward and the need for more verbal instructions rather than physical ones. It also highlighted that mothers with previous children felt more secure and confident when going home compared to first-time mothers.
