Vilken konfessionalitet? : En kvalitativ dokumentanalys av konstruktionen av religionsbegreppet i Gy11

Sammanfattning: Religious education has been a well-debated subject throughout history. In our current, globalized and religiously pluralistic world the debate regarding the education’s non-denominational nature is a vital part of that debate. The aim of this study is to investigate how the meaning of the term “religion” is constructed in the current curriculum for the Swedish upper secondary school. Furthermore, the study will investigate how this construction relates to the rulings regarding the school’s non-denominational nature as well as what consequences the construction can lead to regarding the relation between Christianity and other religions. The results of the study show that the curriculum is strongly influenced by the Christian tradition and that the curriculum’s construction of the term religion may lead to the “othering” of non-Christian religions. Arguably, the curriculum also somewhat favours a secularistic/atheistic understanding of religion which results in a failure to meet the established demands regarding non-denominationalism.
